WHO ARE INVITED?
The research showcase is aimed at industry professionals and academic fraternity so that they can discover research and development work at IIIT-D as well as other institutions and identify potential areas of collaboration. We particularly invite students and faculty members from various technical institutes all over India. Pre-registration for the event is mandatory.
WHY RESEARCH SHOWCASE?
Research Showcase brings forth the research accomplishments of scholars at IIIT-D and other premier research institutes in NCR. Exhibits of real-world applications will be on view and open for discussion, giving an opportunity to draw critical insights, and be a part of creative and intellectual activities. Faculty, staff, business and industry leaders will come together for a day of collaboration portraying how research adds value to the community.
Niloy Ganguly is a professor of computer science, IIT Kharagpur who works in three different but related fields: (1) Online Social networks, (2) Network Theory, (3) mobile systems. Prior to his current position as a faculty at Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, India, he was working as a Research Scientist in Zentrum für Hochleistungsrechnen, Technische Universität Dresden for two years. He received his Ph.D from IIEST, Shibpur and BTech from IIT Kharagpur.
He is a part of a very active research group CNeRG (Complex Network Research Group) http://cnerg.org in IIT Kharagpur. He has been collaborating with various national and international universities and research lab including UIUC, TU Dresden, Germany, MPI PKS and MPI SWS, Germany, Microsoft Lab, Adobe Labs, HP Labs, NetApp Labs etc. He currently publishes in various top ranking international journals and conferences including ICDM, ACL, WWW, INFOCOM, SIGIR, SIGKDD, SIGCHI, ICWSM, CSCW, NIPS CCS, PODC, Euro Physics Letters, Physical Review E, ACM and IEEE Transactions, etc.For further information on Dr. Ganguly, please visit his website here.

Virtual Assistants are widely prevalent in various forms and domain. One such target domain is Personal Banking Assistance. Information related to account balance, account statement, fund transfer, mobile recharge, fixed deposits, BYOM (Be your own Master) Loans are frequently sought after. This information is often accessible through a dedicated channel and platform. This challenge aims at addressing Personal Banking Assistance through a Chatbot service. Chatbot is a service powered by rules and sometimes artificial intelligence. It allows the user to interact with services using a messaging interface or voice commands. The concept is that this service can be integrated with any of the platforms commonly used by customers, for example, Facebook messenger or mobile phone keypad. The customer does not need to open any web pages or separate apps to do a financial transaction and the whole activity can be undertaken in natural language.
IIIT-Delhi, IBM and Federal Bank are excited to announce this real world coding challenge to students, budding entrepreneurs and fellow tech enthusiasts. The challenge is to develop the Chatbot platform (Text enabled and Voice enabled) where any customer can interact using natural language. The inputs can be via a messaging interface or voice. The platform should be developed in such a matter that Bank services can be plugged in and removed at any time without disrupting the whole platform.

Organizers will select some of the best works either for poster presentation or talk. The Innovation Challenge is an opportunity to showcase your research and development efforts to the world. You will have to present your work to public as well as before jury. An attractive cash prize award will be given based on the presentation skills and innovative idea present in your work. The work which you would present should match the below mentioned themes. Your project work should make a strong practical impact on either of these below-mentioned areas, which you will demonstrate in the form of a working model.

Research Showcase 2018 will feature C level leaders from leading research based startups to share their work and success stories. Participants will be able to interact with the leaders through panel discussion.
Anupam Saronwala is Advisor, Mentor & Angel Investor Anupam’s focus is on “applying technology innovations to drive tangible business value” that leverages more than 30 years of global experience with US and Indian companies in the areas of business consulting, technology licensing and alliances, software research and development, and operations; with the last 14 years with world’s premier industrial research Lab, IBM Research.
Recently retired as the Country Leader and Program Director, IBM Research Business Development based at IBM Research – India, New Delhi. Responsible for leading business development activities for new research technologies and innovation projects in selected areas of machine learning, big data, blockchain, IoT, mobile and cloud for clients in IBM Growth Markets. Successfully involved in strategic services engagements and research collaborations that contributed to IBM signing multi-million dollars deals in growth markets, with some lasting multiple years. Anupam has done MS in Computer Engineering from Syracuse University, a B.Tech degree from IIT-Kanpur and Executive Leadership program with Cornell University.
Debdoot Mukherjee is Director, Data Science, Hike. He leads a team that creates unique data products to weave sticky experiences in the Hike app and solves unique problems that arise as the company tries to bring the next billion people online. The Data Science team at Hike mines one of the richest and biggest data repositories in India to power interesting applications in the areas of recommender systems, image/video understanding, conversational AI, social network analysis etc. Before Hike, Debdoot was leading data science programs at Myntra focused on personalization and customer analytics. Prior to this, he worked for IBM Research where he investigated problems related to enterprise search and information extraction. Debdoot is a regular speaker at prestigious AI and ML forums, he has co-authored over 20 papers at top tier international conferences and filed over 25 patents. Debdoot graduated from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi at the top of the class.
Dinesh Tewari is co-founder and COO of Circle of Life Healthcare Pvt Ltd, brings with him over 18 years of leadership experience as an army officer and at Telecom MNC where he was spearheading various global transition and transformation initiatives. At Circle of Life Healthcare Pvt Ltd, he sits at the confluence of Product Engineering, Management, Data Sciences and Operations. He is a B.Tech (Telecom and IT) from Military College of Telecommunication Engineering and a PGDM (MBA) from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.
Palash Bansal a developer and an innovator who has been creating innovative applications and products from the age of 12 when he started learning coding. After working on a variety of fields including mobile computing, image analysis, security, computer graphics, etc, he is focusing on raising Computer Security awareness where he was recently received an award form the Prime minister Narendra Modi. Currently he is now working on the startup RealVol which aims at improving the state of the art technologies for medical visualisation and volumetric rendering through Augmented and Virtual Reality.

For the first time we will have stalls by each centre showing their research activities. This is a great opportunity for aspirants of internship and research collaboration to engage into discussion with faculty members and senior research scholars. There will be goodies at every stall.
Problem Statement : Given the data of Bollywood Movies, please perform one or more of the following data analysis tasks : -- Enable multi modal Question Answer on top of this dataset. User should be able to ask questions(in text format), and the output should be text and/or image. User may also provide an image as an input, and the output should be the plot/points relevant to that image. -- Convert the movie plot into entity-relation ship graph where each path traversal provides a different story arc of the movie -- The data set has been used to show gender bias present in bollywood(http://proceedings.mlr.press/v81/madaan18a/madaan18a.pdf). You may extend this work to change the movie text to be gender neutral. -- Can you show a relationship between backdrop of the movie and gender bias presented in the movie? For example - Is gender bias more prevalent in movies with a rural setting than with an urban one? -- You may come up with any other innovative use of the dataset which leverages and proposes new text, image or video task and early solutions. Your poster should explain the overview of your work and results. Size of poster required - A5, Format of report - Report needs to contain the contain the following points: 1) The problem/s you attempted. 2) Your hypothesis about how the problem may be solved. 3) Data preprocessing - if any. 4) Detailed stepwise methodology. 5) Results 6) Analysis of results.
